Icelandic-museums.com is dedicated to eleven heritage sites in Nortwest Iceland

Here at Icelandic-Museums.com we propose to you eleven unique historical sites where you can experience the rich cultural heritage of Iceland past and present. Through contextual guidance, museum exhibitions and accurate historical reconstructions the cultural history of Iceland comes alive in the minds of visitors.

The eleven sites are very diverse and offer a variety of experiences and service to the visitor. Some are plain sights to be seen or places where one can look around and feel the atmosphere of thousands of years of human struggle, while others are museums, exhibitions and educational centres famous for their unique approach.

These places are situated along a road stretching from the small village Reykholar to the historical Trekyllisvik and include the Eagle's Nest visitor centre at Kroksfjardarnes, the Natural Resources Exhibition of Reykholar, the Sheep Centre of Saevangur in Steingrimsfjordur, the Museum of Sorcery and Witchcraft in the village of Holmavik, the Sorcerer's Cottage of Bjarnarfjordur, Djupavik ghost town with its huge herring factory and Kort arts and crafts centre in Trekyllisvik.

About this web

ImageIcelandic-Museums.com is a web dedicated to the promotion of cultural heritage projects in Reykholasveit and Strandir in the northwestern part of Iceland. Conveniently situated at three-hours driving distance from the capital area of Reykjavik, yet firmly established in the countryside of Iceland between the typical seaside villages and historical farmsteads, these sites give access to a novel world, where ancient, medieval and modern meet in the traditions and practices of people living in Iceland through the centuries.

Arnkatla 2008

IcelandicMuseums.com is a project of Arnkatla 2008, a grassroots organisation furthering the economic development of the regions of Reykholasveit and Strandir through education, consultation and promotion.
